Trump impeachment inquiries proceed as US House to vote on Thursday

A senior Democratic aide said the U.S. House of Representatives would vote on a bill on Thursday that formalizes the path forward in the investigation into President Donald Trump’s impeachment, including possible public hearings.

The bill would “set out the next steps for the investigation,” the assistant told AFP Monday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi notified fellow Democrats about the proposal which appears to be aimed at pushing back Trump and Republicans who protested that an impeachment trial requires authority without a full-floor vote.

“This resolution lays out the hearing procedure that is available to the American people … outlines the processes for moving evidence to the Judiciary Committee as it addresses possible articles of impeachment and sets out due process rights for the President and his lawyers,” Pelosi wrote in her letter to the legislature.
