School teachers travelling from Okitipupa, Ondo State to Ogun State to attend a wedding ceremony were amongst the passengers. It was learned that at least nine persons have died in a multiple car accident in the Ogun-East Area of the State of Ijebu-Ife.
The accident took place on Saturday and involved several passengers from Ondo. Among the passengers were school teachers travelling for a wedding ceremony from Ondo’s Okitipupa region to Ogun State.
The sad event reported to our reporter Saturday by the relatives of some of the victims. The incident was verified by one family member, Mr Ayodele Ikuomola, who lost an aunt in the crash.
He said, “I lost my aunt on the crash while was travelling from Okitipupa to Ogun State for a wedding ceremony. “Many teachers who accompany them on the journey have also lost their lives too.
Speaking with NewsReporters, The Chairman, Okitipupa Local Council Area, Abayomi Adesanya, also confirmed the crash. He said, “I heard that the driver of one of the vehicles tried to overtake another and bumped into a tanker in the process.”
He said, “I spoke to the NURTW branch chairman in Okitipupa and he confirmed the accident to me. I was also told that our people from both Ilaje and Okitipupa were on the wedding trip to Ogun State.” Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Clement Oladele, also confirmed the tragedy.
