Manchester United finally signs Bruno Fernandes with €55m agreement

Manchester United finally signs Bruno Fernandes with €55m agreement deal and the Portuguese midfielder have passed his medicals at Manchester United.

According to Goal.com has confirmed that following a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs on Tuesday, the deal is close to being completed ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline

United will pay a Portugal international up to €80m (£ 68m/$88 m), with a number of additional provisions negotiated between the two sides.

Of those add-ons, it is known that €10m should be relatively straightforward to achieve, but the specifics involved in the final €15m are far less likely to be accomplished.

In recent days, talks between United and Sporting had broken down with the clubs too far apart when it comes to Fernandes ‘ valuation.

Sporting had held out for € 80 million, with United only agreeing to pay an initial € 50 million, with a further € 10.5 million in add-ons.

Those add-ons included the 25-year-old winner of the Premier League Ballon d’Or and the Red Devils, and although they are understood to remain part of the deal, Sporting was unhappy that even with their inclusion the total amount would fall somewhat short of their valuation.

Tuesday’s reports suggested Barcelona showed an interest in signing Fernandes, with the Blaugrana hoping to use him as a makeweight in their pursuit of Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno.

But the player will now travel to Manchester on Wednesday to complete the move ahead of a potential Premier League debut on Saturday against Wolves.

The arrival of Fernandes comes as a welcome boost to United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who in recent weeks has been placed under increasing pressure.

In their last four league games, the former United forward has seen his side fall to three losses to leave the 20-time English champions six points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea in their search of football in the Champions League.

After the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie, the Old Trafford outfit already finds themselves 3-1 down to Manchester City, with the second leg set for Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium.

Fernandes ‘ signing may also take some heat off executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, with fans have been vocal about the club’s failure to sign any players during the January window in recent weeks.

After Woodward’s ascension into the position in 2013, the Red Devils have struggled in the transfer market and will be hopeful Fernandes will buck the recent trend of disappointing big-money arrivals.
