The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has urged the People’ Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to graciously accept the Supreme Court’s final judgment.
On Wednesday, the apex court rejected an appeal lodged by the PDP and Atiku for lack of merit after opposing President Muhammadu Buhari’s win in the February 23, 2019 presidential election.
Lawan said in a statement by his Special Adviser on Press, Ola Awoniyi, that focus should be transferred to expressing support to President Buhari while he aims to build the country after the conclusion of the litigation.
“Now that the litigation is over, we should all rally as one people behind the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, in his commitment to building the great nation of our dream.
“The petitioners should gracefully accept the final verdict of our court of law while the winners should demonstrate magnanimity by extending the hand of fellowship to the opposition with a view to carrying all Nigerians along in the arduous task of nation-building,” Lawan said.
He encouraged President Buhari and his administration to continue to focus on good governance in order to deliver on the vision of the President to improve the lives of Nigerians and put the nation on the road to sustainable development.
Lawan said the Ninth National Assembly would continue to produce good legislation and seek a harmonious relationship for the stability, prosperity, and development of our fatherland between government institutions and Nigerians.
